Kiel Ranch Update

Kiel Ranch dates to the early Mormon Settlement era, c. 1856 but has not been open to the public since the city of North Las Vegas acquired the park in 1976.  For more information on the history of Kiel Ranch, see our October 2005 newsletter.  Photos depicting the current state of Kiel Ranch are available in the Photo Gallery.  See http://mrhinton.org/kiel%20ranch.htm for resources on the history of Kiel Ranch.

In a special session July 19, 2006,  the North Las Vegas City Council voted to proceed with plans to clean and improve the site.  North Las Vegas is investigating the possibility of the State taking over management of the historic site.

North Las Vegas was seeking an $8 million appropriation for Kiel but SB 194 was not successful in this past legislative session.  The city did fund $55,000 from their 2007 - 2008 budget to assist in the clean up.  In 2007 the city did receive over $300,000 from the BLM to do another master plan.  The city is currently addressing a use plan for Kiel.
